- NEWS -

  • I recently announced my new alias for electroacoustic phantasy music: Phýgment. The release of my debut single will be announced very, very soon. Adding finishing touches now. In the meantime, here are Phýgment’s links: Facebook & Instagram.

  • I had the pleasure to record guitar parts and contribute sound design on two songs for my friend, Ole Oddløkken, who plays saxophone and more. It is his first solo album, inspired by his first trip home to Norway in seventeen years, his mother's passing from terminal illness while the pandemic lockdown began, national division, and the Hurricane Ida national disaster. It is out now & you can hear me featured as Phýgment on both “Velvet Steps” & “The Stages.”

  • After years of putting all my writing energy into Biscuithound, I have finally decided to release music under my own name. This is something I always thought to avoid, but new ideas have presented themselves to me. Over the pandemic, I began playing more keyboards, drums, and bass, in addition to my nylon string guitar. It is inspiring to compose from numerous instrument perspectives. Stay tuned, while I am recording them myself from home. (Links: Facebook & Instagram)

  • I am also in process of mixing and producing a debut album for my long-time friend, Trey Pearson, and his psychedelic outlaw-folk project: Little Bird.

- ABOUT -

As songwriter-in-chief in New Orleans-based progressive rock group Biscuithound, as well as in the electroacoustic phantasy project Phýgment and ambient darkjass venture SleepSinger, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Britton Newton calmly offers something genuine from the emptiness, despite the commercial-state of music in our world today. He twines open-to-interpretation poetic imagery with uncompromising conviction, from whisper to tremendous openness, in forms of immersive melody and unorthodox riffing. Whether rocking out or entranced, a tenacious grounding roves throughout the music — essential human perseverance and fortitude — to revel that transformation is not only possible, but constant, in every bend of life’s delphic spiral.

As a musician, Britton openheartedly creates, with mission to awaken… to engage and enflame. For humanity, he believes in our capacity to connect and transcend perception and condition with compassion and bravery, despite living in an unfree world. As Camus would say, “your very existence is an act of rebellion.” It is not optimism, but diligence, that adversity becomes the way. This defiant experimentalist will reel you close within the music, to provoke your imagination, encourage healing, befriend darkness, celebrate innocence and experience… fragility and power of mind.
