Britton Newton

Louisiana Performing Musician & Producer

Songwriter | Arranger | Guitarist | Vocalist | Multi-Instrumentalist | Audio Engineer

- NEWS -

  • After two decades of writing predominantly in bands, I have finally decided to release music under my own name. This is something I previously avoided, but many exciting ideas have been circulating for the past few years. While Biscuithound was on hiatus during the pandemic, I began playing more keyboards, drums, and bass, in addition to spending a lot of time with my nylon string guitar. It became inspiring to compose from the various perspectives of each instrument and experiment with genres and soundworlds outside my typical scope. Stay tuned, while I am currently in production on these recordings. (Links: Facebook & Instagram)

  • The new alias for my ambient and electroacoustic phantasy music is: Phýgment. More will be announced soon. In the meantime, here are links where updates will be: Facebook & Instagram.

  • I had the pleasure to record guitar parts and contribute sound design on two songs for my friend, Ole Oddløkken, who plays saxophone and more. It is his first solo album, inspired by his first trip home to Norway in seventeen years, his mother's passing from terminal illness while the pandemic lockdown began, national division, and the Hurricane Ida national disaster. It is out now & you can hear me featured as Phýgment on both “Velvet Steps” & “The Stages.”

- ABOUT -

As songwriter-in-chief in New Orleans-based progressive rock group Biscuithound, as well as in the electroacoustic phantasy project Phýgment and ambient darkjass venture SleepSinger, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Britton Newton calmly offers something genuine from the emptiness, despite the commercial-state of music in our world today. He twines open-to-interpretation poetic imagery with uncompromising conviction, from whisper to tremendous openness, in forms of immersive melody and unorthodox riffing. Whether rocking out or entranced, a tenacious grounding roves throughout the music — essential human perseverance and fortitude — to revel that transformation is not only possible, but constant, in every bend of life’s delphic spiral.

As a musician, Britton openheartedly creates, with mission to awaken… to engage and enflame. For humanity, he believes in our capacity to connect and transcend perception and condition with compassion and bravery, despite living in an unfree world. As Camus would say, “your very existence is an act of rebellion.” It is not optimism, but diligence, that adversity becomes the way. This defiant experimentalist will reel you close within the music, to provoke your imagination, encourage healing, befriend darkness, celebrate innocence and experience… fragility and power of mind.
